Dr. Stefania Kapsetaki is a scientist working on the evolution of multicellularity and cancer across species. She’s also a professional pianist interested in bridging the gap between science and the arts. https://stkapsetaki.wixsite.com/-mou
I enjoy interdisciplinary thinking and critically observing the world.
My pronouns are:
I work as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at Arizona State University.
We try to explain the diversity in cancer prevalence across species. Some species have higher cancer prevalence than others. Why is that? How can evolution help us explain this diversity?
My Typical Day:
Almost every day I devote time on practising science and music.
My typical day includes several meetings, sometimes lab-work, reading scientific articles, analysing data, making figures, writing scientific articles, practising on the piano, and walking from my home to the University and back for approximately two hours.
What I'd do with the prize money:
I’d use the prize money towards my travel expenses and equipment for display in museums, high schools, and science festivals to talk about science with the public.
Organising an outreach event requires travelling to the location, providing leaflets to the audience so that they can read about science, providing biological samples to observe under the microscope, extracting strawberry DNA and providing the materials for this activity, and algae with predators to display the possible first steps in the evolution of multicellularity.
