We try to explain the diversity in cancer prevalence across species. Some species have higher cancer prevalence than others. Why is that? How can evolution help us explain this diversity?

Organising an outreach event requires travelling to the location, providing leaflets to the audience so that they can read about science, providing biological samples to observe under the microscope, extracting strawberry DNA and providing the materials for this activity, and algae with predators to display the possible first steps in the evolution of multicellularity.

My Interview
-
How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Scientist. Pianist. Interdisciplinary.
What's the best thing you've done in your career?
It's difficult to choose one, but one of the top is helping colleagues reach their dreams.
What or who inspired you to follow your career?
Many different people, from family, friends, and teachers.
What was your favorite subject at school?
Many subjects.
What did you want to be after you left school?
I wasn't sure.
Were you ever in trouble at school?
Not really.
If you weren't doing this job, what would you choose instead?
Probably a vet or an astrophysicist.
Who is your favorite singer or band?
There are many great singers and bands. I find people who write lyrics, at a very high poetic level, as well as compose music to be the most inspiring.
What's your favorite food?
I haven't tried everything, but out of the dishes I've tried most of my favourites are from the Mediterranean cuisine.
What is the most fun thing you've done?
Approaching animals, e.g. feeding ducks.
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
Be healthy. Be safe. Have fun.
Tell us a joke.
I'll leave this for our group conversations.
